Researchers in Australia have shown that gamma-tocotrienol, a component of vitamin E, is effective at reducing the growth of tumors from transplanted prostate cancer cells. The agent also makes the cancer cells more sensitive to traditional chemotherapy agents. The researchers believe that the results are due to the effect of gamma-tocotrienol on a particular subset of the cancer cells, called cancer stem cells. These cells may be the critical target in the treatment of prostate cancer and other cancers.
