A small cancer clinical trial gave historical results. Every patient in the trial had a complete remission of their rectal cancer. The 12 patients received a treatment, dostarlimab, every three weeks for six months. The treatment is designed to activate the patient's own immune system to fight cancer. Dosarlimab is one of group of drugs called 'checkpoint inhibitors'. They all work to prevent cancer cells from shutting down the immune system. In this case, the results were outstanding - EVERY patient went into remission and had no evidence of disease. Only time will tell if they are cured, but this is an amazing and exciting result!
