People with diabetes get cancer more than would be expected by chance. The answer to whether diabetes causes cancer is incomplete but interesting. The diseases share common risk factors (i.e. obesity), but both are complex illnesses, making a direct link hard to prove. There is evidence which suggests that risks of some cancer are influenced by diabetes (both increased and decreased) and that cancer prognoses can be influenced by diabetes medications. The biology behind the connection is currently under investigation.
