Dr. Saltz's research on bioinformatics spans several disciplines. One project involves applying computer analysis to medical imaging to yield better results for patients. As an example, a computer program may able to help doctors detect small cancers in a CT scan or mammogram. In this interview, Dr. Saltz discusses some of the uses of bioinformatics and its application to cancer. He also discusses a national effort to connect researchers interested in computerized approaches to cancer research, caBIG and caGrid.
