A study of over 90,000 deaths in New Zealand has found a link between growing up/working around livestock and development of blood cancers. The linkage was strongest amongst those who grew up near poultry. In this population the risk was three times higher. The cause is unknown but may be related to exposure to particular kinds of viruses.
