一般来说,肿瘤可以是癌性(恶性)或非癌性(良性)。卵巢癌是指起源于卵巢的恶性肿瘤,可以扩散(转移)到身体其他部位。卵巢肿瘤主要有三种类型。 1

上皮性肿瘤: 这种肿瘤是最常见的卵巢肿瘤类型。这种肿瘤起源于构成卵巢外表面(上皮)的细胞。

胚细胞肿瘤: 这种肿瘤起源于产生卵子的细胞。

间质肿瘤: 这种肿瘤起源于卵巢间质细胞。间质细胞将卵巢各部分连接在一起并分泌雌性激素。

卵巢癌是导致女性死亡的第五大原因。大约50%被诊断为卵巢癌的妇女年龄在62岁以上。白人女性比非裔美国女性更容易患卵巢癌。美国癌症协会估计,2016年,美国将有约22,280例卵巢癌新病例,约14,240人将死于卵巢癌。2

5年生存率对于卵巢癌诊断后5年仍活着的人数,与同龄但没有癌症的个体的数量相比。I期侵润性上皮性卵巢癌患者的相对5年生存率为89%;II期侵润性上皮性卵巢癌为66%;III期侵润性上皮性卵巢癌为34%;IV期上皮性卵巢癌为18%。I期卵巢低恶性肿瘤患者相对5年生存率为99%;II期卵巢低恶性肿瘤为98%;III期卵巢低恶性肿瘤为96%;IV期卵巢低恶性肿瘤为77%。3
